Leaving a legacy. That seems to be something that many people want to do. In my research on the subject, I’ve found many different viewpoints and experiences. Some of them are best conveyed with quotations.

Here are a few of my favorite legacy quotes …

I am convinced that the greatest legacy we can leave our children are happy memories: those precious moments so much like pebbles on the beach that are plucked from the white sand and placed in tiny boxes that lay undisturbed on tall shelves until one day they spill out and time repeats itself, with joy and sweet sadness, in the child now an adult.
~ Og Mandino

This is one of my favorite quotes. I love the picture this describes…

While pictures may be worth a thousand words, our feelings convey much more…

But You Can Read About The Lives of Others

History is the essence of innumerable biographies. ~ Thomas Carlyle

One of the greatest learning experiences of life, is to learn from those who have gone before us.

Biography

“Everyone must leave something behind when he dies, my grandfather said. A child or a book or a painting or a house or a wall built or a pair of shoes made. Or a garden planted. Something your hand touched some way so your soul has somewhere to go when you die, and when people look at that tree or that flower you planted, you’re there.

It doesn’t matter what you do, he said, so long as you change something from the way it was before you touched it into something that’s like you after you take your hands away. The difference between the man who just cuts lawns and a real gardener is in the touching, he said. The lawn-cutter might just as well not have been there at all; the gardener will be there a lifetime.” ~ Ray Bradbury, Fahrenheit 451
